Will Rose be able to reconcile the man she knows with the devil he used to be? Or are the mistakes of the past too damning?

A devilish hero

There was a note from my editor when she was working on Mistakes of the Past. It said she hadn’t expected to have a crush on Luc. It was the reaction I was looking for, and I gotta admit, I may have cackled evilly a bit.

You see, Luc is usually the bad guy. He doesn’t often get to be portrayed in a good light. Usually, he’s out to take over the world and it’s up to the heroes to stop him. I’ve even done that myself. In Path of Angels, Michael and his brothers are trying to stop Hell from being unleashed.

This has caused some trepidation for me. I’ve wondered how people will react to Luc. Can they accept him as the good guy on a mission to redeem himself? Or is that too farfetched. But this fact made Luc a blast to write. When he gets cheeky, he gets really cheeky in an attempt to live up to his reputation. It also causes him to seriously doubt himself and wonder if he should even bother. He thinks he doesn’t deserve forgiveness.

I want the reader to know who Luc is without him stating it. There are hints throughout the novel, but it was important to not reveal the truth until the end. Until Luc comes to terms with it himself.

It’s strange to write someone that is usually a villain as the hero. It makes you approach them differently. You explore them more. You also get to get into their heads during when they’re the baddie, and that in itself is fun to write.

Patricia Josephine never set out to become a writer. In fact, she never considered it an option during high school and college. She was all about art. On a whim, she wrote down a story bouncing in her head. That was the start of it and she hasn't regretted a moment. She writes young adult under the name Patricia Lynne.

Patricia lives with her husband in Michigan, hopes one day to have what will resemble a small petting zoo, has a fondness for dying her hair the colors of the rainbow, and an obsession with Doctor Who.

What exactly are we celebrating?

Every week, wonderful things happen, tiny things, which make us smile. But as time grabs us up, we forget all about these moments as if they never existed at all. This is the chance for us to reflect back on those and remember that there are tons of things worth celebrating.

This week, I'm celebrating. . . 


1) Reading at the library! I received a rather sudden request to do a reading session at the library this past week. It's the first one the library has offered since last Winter, but still, 4 kids came (which is a lot for a Wednesday morning in a small town.) Of course, they were pretty young since school is in session, and it was more of an interactive 'let's get through the illustrations' rather than a real read, but all were smiles at the end.

2) Acorn squash! The squash smiled at me while I was grocery shopping (did you know vegetables/fruits/meat do that sometimes???), so I picked some up and went googling for recipes. I ended up cutting them in half, taking out the seeds and gookies, and baking them with an oil-thyme-parmesan mixture. Simple and yummy.

And that's about it! It was a quiet week. Lots of time for writing and drinking tea.

This week, I'm celebrating. . . 

1) Two lucky deer accidents! Living out here, it was clear that the time would come when we'd hit a deer. First, my husband hit one and luckily (I going to use this word a lot) only smacked off the driver's mirror. I say 'lucky' because with the car he drives, hitting it in the front would have meant a slide up the windshield and a not so nice outcome. So, we can handle one mirror. (The deer took off. . .probably with a very sore backside :( ). Second, my son decided to ride a motorcycle at night although we told him how stupid it was —they never listen—and sure enough, a deer popped out in front of him. He swerved and skid across the road. Luckily, we were following him and he was only going 40-45 mph on a much faster stretch. He came out of it with only scratches, bruises and a couple days of pain. So lucky him too.

2) Chainsawing! With my two men not able to do hard labor and work to be done, I hit the world of chainsawing this week to clean up some thick limbs out of the barn. The thing gets heavy after 20 or so mins, but I just take a break, drink a tea, do some writing, and then, go back and carry on. So add that to new experiences!

3) A long weekend for the kids! It's teacher conference time, so the kids only had a 1/2 day Thursday and get off today (hence, I'm late with this post). We have all sorts of chores, activities and things to do. . .can they just have another 2 or 3 days off???

This week, I'm celebrating. . . 

1) A Halloween table cloth! It's black with tons of happy jack'o lanterns. Every time I walk by (which is an awful lot), I can't help but smile back.

2) Writing time! I've had lots of it this week, but then, I have TONS of writing to get done. I'm beginning to feel like I'm drowning but that's more because I'm the slowest writer in the world than actual time constraints. I think I got 2 pages done in 3 hours yesterday. (I was having a hard time sinking into the scene). But, I had those three hours. So yay!


3) The ARCs came out yesterday for FULL DARK! (see goodreads here), and it has a cover. . .a very dark one, of course.

4) Temperature drops! The weather is pretending to be on a roller coaster, but that means that we're finally leaving those upper 80's and lower 90's (it isn't right for it to be that hot here in October. . .how can I drink my hot apple cider???) But we had a sudden drop Tuesday from 88 to 65 degrees. Heavenly! But tomorrow it's suppose to be back up to 90 and Sunday drop down to 62. It's just crazy!

Okay, now that I have that out of my system . . .

I'm celebrating

1) Rain! We went about 8 weeks without rain, and my poor pastures were suffering badly. Finally, those drops fell from the sky. It wasn't too much, but everything turned green and is growing nicely.

2) My first draft of a short story is done! Now, come edits...and more edits...and more edits... But that's my favorite part of writing, so yay!

3) The upcoming release of FULL DARK! This is a 'dark' anthology from eleven authors (including me) and will be released just in time for Halloween—October 30th!!! The best part is that ALL. . .yep, that's right. . .ALL proceeds go to the Gary Sinise Foundation. This foundation does lovely things for our country's active military, its veterans, and all of those amazing first responders who keep us safe. The cover isn't finished yet, but it's already on Goodreads here

IWSG again already?

Ugh! These last months are faster than a whirlwind, and that's why I'm a little late today with this. 

It's October, already?

Anyway, it's again time for THE INSECURE WRITER'S SUPPORT GROUP . . .Better known as IWSG. For those who don't know what this is (and I assume most of you do), it's the most amazing group of writers, started by the just as fantastic Alex J. Cavanaugh. The purpose is to support, help, assist, offer advice, offer a shoulder, cheer on, and about anything else you can think of along these lines. Writing is a roller coaster ride, and writers need all the support they can get.

As said, life is flying by faster than I can catch it right now. So. Much. To. Do!!! Luckily, this also includes the writing front. . .and a TON of regular life things.

So, I'm going to head right into this month's question, since I have no idea where to start otherwise

Have you ever slipped any of your personal information into your characters, either by accident or on purpose?

My characters are not me. I don't give my characters tidbits from my own past or similar likes or experiences or hobbies or values or anything along those lines. My characters are their own individuals with their own quirks and baggage. I'd never make them as odd. . .*cough*. . .weird. . .uhm. . .strange. . .
I'll just say no, I don't.
